As Google scours the web on its relentless mission to index everything, it will come across these links to your website and treat them like “popularity votes”. The more “popular” your site is considered, the better your ranks will be. To add to this, Google will look at the wording of the link, (which is where your keywords will be placed) and the more popular a website is considered for links with particular keywords, then the better your ranks for those keywords will be.
